For the sake of play balance to improve the odds for the evil player's Moria Goblins & Cave Troll, the following rules should be used: 1. The Good side get the complete Fellowship. The Evil side gets 36 goblins a nd 1 Cave troll. Becuase the goblins are defending thier caves, they will not take any morale checks until they suffer 2/3's (not including the Cave troll) casualties. In other words, the goblins must lose 24 out of 36 goblins before thay take morale checks. 2.All Good side Heroes must initially set up up within 3 hexes of Balin's Tomb at the beginning of the scenario. Gimili must start on top of the Tomb. Gimli cannot leave the Tomb until either goblins or the Cave troll get past any of the Heroes in front of him. 3. In this scenario, the evil side get priority on the first turn. 4. The 1/2 hex at the entrance of Balin's Tomb does not count towards the Goblins movement cost when they enter the room. The 1/2 hexes on the entrance corridor and those 1/2 hexes by either wall of the entrance may be occupied by a goblin warrior or any of the hobbits. 5. The Cave troll cannot appear on the first turn. During the evil's side second turn, it must roll a 4 or better for the Cave Troll to appear. If that roll fails, on the next evil player's turn the Troll will appear on a roll of 2 or better. By the fourth turn of the evil player if the Troll hasn't appeared yet, it will now appear automatically. Hopefully these rules will address the problem of the good player Heroes creating a bottleneck at the entrance, preventing the goblins to use thier greater numbers to compensate for thier weak fight values. By bottlenecking the entrance the Heroes can usually slaughter the goblins with ease, with little danger to themselves. The 1" hex grid I made with the tiles saves using a ruler in the cramped confines of the room--but it does cause movement problems that I did not forseen at the time when half hexes appear. Allowing the goblins to enter half hexes against the walls compensates somewhat for their slow movement value, and can be justified by by the fact the goblins are small enough to enter such half hexes. I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who have an opportunity to try these rules with my Balin's Tomb tile set. Thanks, Ron Shirtz
